A letter for grandmother; using writing to recall the feelings in words

Yellowing notes, sentimental conversations, and writing that has faded with time. Do you remember when was the last time you picked up a pen and wrote a letter? Maybe the content of the letter is just random, unimportant things, but this simple act of telling someone our thoughts and the excitement and expectation when receiving a letter seems to have become the most precious memory we do not want to lose.

Wang, Cing-Fu founded the Pinmo Pure Store in 2009. He remembers that as a student when everyone was comparing drafts of work, all the others had digital work while he was the only one with a handwritten paper. Although he was teased about it, it demonstrated his instance and attitude towards handwritten work. When Cing-Fu started working in graphic design, most of the case proposals were exported in paper form. Thus, the paper selection was an important part of his work. Using himself as a starting point, he opened a paper shop, the Pinmo Pure Store.

Using 100 handwritten cards just to deliver utmost sincerity

During his military service, Cing-Fu was in the Radiation Department and often came in contact with various types of rare materials. Among which, he became fascinated with the Kraft paper that the X-ray films are placed in. For two consecutive Christmases, he used the Kraft paper to write 100 cards. He wrote each card based on how he felt about the person he was writing to. This unfathomable action allowed him to repeatedly think about and depict his feelings toward other people.

Even now, when Cing-Fu really wishes to greet people, he would still use handwritten letters. That is because compared to a rapidly typed electronic letter, the strokes in the handwriting process can produce an indescribable warmth. Even for standard format work-use letters, he would still personally sign the letter. This not only demonstrates his own uniqueness but also adds a touch of humanity and feeling to an otherwise cold screen.

A letter to grandmother became his motivation for continuing his creation

Of his entire letter-writing experience, the most memorable experience came from the Chin Ai music troupe, a troupe formed for rural children that he has long helped with. One child that was raised single-handedly by his grandmother published his first piano album with the help of the troupe.

Touched by this family story, Wang Cing-Fu decided to write a letter to the grandmother and help the child design the album cover in a way that expressed his gratitude towards his grandmother. If not for his grandmother, the boy would not have turned out so well. The letter slipped inside the album is like an unfinished conversation with his own mother. This way, every person who purchases the album can write a letter to her.

This experience became an unforgettable memory. Originally, Cing-Fu wanted to provide warmth, but in the end, Cing-Fu was the one who received nourishment and inspiration for creation.

As a designer, Wang Cing-Fu is sensitive about the paper he uses and the texture that the paper produces when being written on. Cing-Fu likes to use a pen to make his creations because the addition of ink allows him to focus all his thoughts on his writings and drawings. The Y Studio pen is detailed and solid.
