Japanese Handcrafted Washi × Refined Taiwanese Stationery Design

Telling stories of Taiwanese culture through washi,
and creating beautiful stationery made to accompany everyday life.

Rooted in the centuries-old papermaking tradition of Echizen, Japan, Mon-Tsunagi Washi is crafted from natural kozo bark fibers.

The fibers interlace organically, creating one-of-a-kind textures while connecting the delicate openwork motifs into a single, complete sheet.

Individual pieces can be gently torn away and used as note paper or small message cards. They can also be lightly moistened and placed on glass as decorative window displays.

Through these simple everyday uses, experience the distinctive warmth, texture, and beauty of traditional washi craftsmanship.

    Writing Experience

The surface retains a delicate fibrous texture. As the pen touches the paper, it meets the slightest resistance—somewhere between cloth and paper—helping each stroke feel steadier while allowing colors to appear rich and clear.

Although each piece is thin, translucent, lightweight, and compact, the paper remains supple and resilient rather than fragile. It withstands writing on a tabletop, repeated handling, and gentle wiping, while softly holding the ink in place without blurring or losing definition.

The paper works beautifully with fountain pens, rollerball pens, and other water-based writing instruments. It resists excessive bleeding and feathering, keeping the ink neatly within each stroke for more saturated colors and cleaner outlines.

Its gently warm, subtly matte fiber surface allows ink colors to appear both vivid and soft, making it especially suited to short phrases, annotations, personal messages, and small-format artworks.

    Pattern Symbolism

    Sky Lantern

A symbol of wishes, hope, and thoughts carried from afar.
As its gentle glow slowly rises, it illuminates the wishes held within.

Mon-Tsunagi Washi transforms blessings into a form that can be written and preserved, gently keeping every heartfelt sentiment among its interwoven fibers and shifting light.

    White Orchid

Inspired by the pure white Phalaenopsis orchid, this design allows elegance to bloom quietly across the washi.

Its interwoven fibers echo the emotional bonds that connect us—allowing words to remain on the paper, and each blessing to blossom beautifully over time.

    Papermaking Workshop

    Yanase Ryozo Paper Mill

    Founded in 1946

The workshop is located in Imadate, the home of Echizen washi.

According to legend, the art of papermaking was introduced to the region 1,500 years ago by Kawakami Gozen, revered as the goddess of papermaking. Her spirit and legacy continue to be carried forward today.

Supple and refined, the workshop’s washi preserves this inherited craftsmanship while bringing the beauty of a thousand-year-old tradition into contemporary life—becoming a quiet companion in everyday moments.
